Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. The couple relocated to Oxfordshire in the year she turned five when she enrolled in the Dragon School. Emma was inspired to be an actor at age six. Through the years she was in the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. There she learned singing along with dancing, as well as acting. When she was ten, she was performing and taking the lead in various Stagecoach performances and school plays. The casting process began in 1999 with the casting process for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered by agents through her Oxford teacher. After a string of auditions for eight consecutive times, the producer David Heyman told Emma and fellow applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they were selected for the role of three of the leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's first film on the screen came in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone that was released in the year 2001. The film set records for the opening day sales as well as opening week-end take-offs and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. Reviewers praised the film, as did the acting performances of the three young stars. The Daily Telegraph, an important British paper, called Emma's acting "amazing".
